"Ninety-seven House Republicans join chorus of opposition to Susan Rice as secretary of state"

Maybe I'm old school, but I believe that if a person is qualified to hold a job, then that person should have a chance of landing that job.  And in my book, Susan Rice -- Republicans notwithstanding -- is qualified to be Secretary of State.

Now the question is, does Obama have the guts to nominate her for that office -- AND FIGHT FOR HER -- or will he simply cave in to the Republicans yet again and nominate someone else?

The problem with building a history of a particular behavior is that that history sticks with you like glue.  If Obama can develop a set of guts and start battling the Republicans for what he wants, he can go a long ways toward ridding himself of the history of caving in to them.
