  •  The Beltway Grapevine? (0+ / 0-)

It's amazing that Susan Rice's name popped up for pre-emptive opposition so quickly. I wouldn't think that the grapevine is all that efficient since it generally deals in rumors and innuendos more than anything resembling actual facts.

I almost suspect that as UN Ambassador, Rice's name was naturally on everyone's speculative shortlists-- except maybe Obama's. Some GOP operatives quickly saw the value in connecting a potential nominee to their outrage du jour and immediately acted. The value to them is the ability to either pump some more juice into their tired scandal story, or claim a victory if Rice isn't the nominee.

Shortsighted of the GOP to put their chips on the already fizzling Benghazi story, while daring the President to nominate an eminently qualified person for SoS. They've become the party of opportunistic spectacle and have let McCain become the lead clown in their circus.
