The money to maintain those things does not come out of thin air.  Governments get money by assessing the citizens for taxes, fees, and so on.

I must have two license plates on my car, and pay $75 every year for a sticker.  That helps pay for state and municipal roads, snow removal, sidewalk repair and so on.  So do some of the gasoline taxes.

We pay sales taxes.  We pay property taxes.  We have an extra tax to pay for the fancy stadium the Brewers had to have, even though Miller's name is on it.  We have city taxes of various kinds.  I pay for my electrical and water service, my garbage and recycling collection, my sewers.

Scott Walker decimated our public park system, once a jewel admired across the country, because he took the money WE PAID in taxes and fees for its maintenance, and did ghods know what with it.

We don't do a good enough job in this country of making it very clear exactly what our taxes pay for in our own towns, cities and neighborhoods.
