Thanks for making the point that Alaska Natives are of a different genetic makeup than American Indians in the Lower 48.  I cringed when I read the reference to American Indians in Alaska in the original diary.

In fact, Eskimos (northern Alaska) are thought to have migrated to Alaska across the land bridge from Siberian Russia and other Asian countries millenia ago.

Alaska Natives in Southeast and Central Alaska are thought to  have predominately migrated up north from South America millenia ago.

Most of the Native population I know consider themselves Alaska Natives, not American Indians.

I thought all of them migrated from Siberia in different waves.

The Tlinkit, Haida, and other Southeastern Alaska Native people are genetically related to the American Indians that migrated up from South America.  The Eskimo people came across the land bridge between Siberia and North America and spread across northern Alaska and Canada -- millenia ago, of course, before they were Siberia, Alaska, Central America, South America, and Canada.

          •  Sorry, I missed your point (0+ / 0-)

I have no clue how those who became the American Indian genotype originated in South America.  I have heard speculation that there was sea traffic between Africa and South America thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of years ago.  I have also heard speculation that those continents may have been closer together thousands (even millions) of years ago than they are today due to continental drift.

I took a quick trip to Google and it didn't show any articles that are more definitive than that.  Guess we have to wait for science to posit additional theories.

were closer tens of millions of years ago. Humanity originated in East Africa. Your version of how human beings got to South America is highly idiosyncratic.
