Still disproportionately low I would assume, but likely significantly higher.  1000 rockets is a lot of rockets.

      •  Difficult to say (0+ / 0-)

According to Al-Jazeera (citing Israeli sources), the success rate of Iron Dome is about 33%. In other words, on average, the death toll would have been about 50% higher without it.

Israeli airstrikes continue to pound Gaza

The Israeli military has struck more than 1,350 targets in Gaza since attacks began on Wednesday, Israel says it launched the operation to deter Palestinian fighters from launching rockets into its territory.
Since then, 640 rockets have hit Israel while more than 300 others have been intercepted by Israel's anti-missile system, the Iron Dome, according to the Israeli army. Three Israeli civilians died on Thursday in a rocket strike.

      •  It is because Israel cares about its civilians (2+ / 0-)

not just with Iron Dome, but because the country is literally full of bomb shelters. Hamas, OTOH, puts its rocket launchers in civilian areas -- which makes sense since it is aiming at civilian targets.

        •  One of the questions that CharlieHall does not (3+ / 0-)

address is the difference between protecting the individuals in the apartment building in Ashkelon, and protecting the political goal of taking all fo Eretz Israel. Iron Dome defends literally against attacks, but not against the premise of the defense which is that as against Palestinians Israel and its various projects can do no wrong, and it is wrong to resist them because  . . . .

And do remember that what may or may not have been the first round in this was the shooting of a Gazan youth who was in a buffer zone inside Gaza which the Israeli army has insisted on enforcing. A place in Gaza to which no Gazan may go.
