    much effort was made to resolve the problems between the colonies and the Crown. It wasn't some half ass decision made after two weeks of some peaceful election, it was long brewing. It took Thomas Paine and his Common Sense to wake the colonies up to the fact that resolution just wasn't going to work, that they'd have to try a more dramatic solution. One that would cost a lot.
