For a very long time it has been normal for the managers of companies not to know a thing about how their business operates on the ground level.

This is a mistake. The best managers I have ever had are those who understood my job because they had worked it. Are there any hostess drivers that have put themselves through business college?

I have never worked for hostess but in my observation I can see a dozen ways they could cut costs without cutting people or wages just by streamlining their in store delivery. I would imagine the people who actually do the work could double that.

What a victory that could be for the workers to bring back a company make it innovative, competitive, and efficient turn a great profit for the people who actually do the work.

its time to rethink that whole paradigm.

      Efficient isn't always better.

Having a plenitude of sustainable jobs is in our national interest, with the bottom line profits going to CEOs and shareholders being secondary.

I don't mean that we go so far as to have unsustainable businesses, but the story here - that the workers were inefficient - is being framed from the perspective of the hedge funds whose only interest is in "harvesting" this company.

Our national interests are better served by the maximum number of people working jobs with living wages and benefits.

We're in this pickle now because we bought the old "efficiency & profits" paradigm. Time to rethink that.
