  •  The GOP was trying to politicize the event. (9+ / 0-)

THEY started it.  Romney was trying to score points before the bodies were cold.  They thought they had their Jimmy Carter moment, and it slipped away from them, so they are furious.

The stupid partisan GOPer bastards objections are  that someone was not putting the particular spin on the events that most favored their own attacks on the administration.

IMHO it would be a natural reaction of the intel community to do whatever they could to depoliticize this, for two reasons:

First and foremost, doing something intelligent about it varies in inverse proportion to how politicized it is.

Second, the Intel community is, for the most part, a part of the executive branch, it answers to the Commander in Chief first, and we are in a state of war, technically.

The Intel community (and I'm guessing it was the Director of National Intel, Clapper, a Bush admin appointee) would not want the C-in-C crippled by congress questioning any future decisions the President makes, nor subject to this sort of political blackmail.  That's just the way it is when the American people give you the power of the Executive Branch, overwhelmingly.  (And TWICE now.)

It's too bad that the two guys now most behind this baloney, McCain and Graham, are virtually immune to just about anything, including having an outlandish case that they are trying to make over nothing blow up in their face. In a fair world it would.
