internet radio and other sources...  even more than they're doing.

there is a persistent, if not overwhelming, demand for non-corporate programming.  if there were a sell off, someone would wind up buying the equipment, perhaps for a song, and doing something with it, perhaps on a smaller scale.

check out soundcloud, mixcloud, pandora, even dkos!!! is getting in on the act.

i had a sunday slot from 1-3 for a year at Pirate Cat Radio in SF broadcasting illegally on 87.9 fm.

we had a decent audience. eventually the fcc fined the owner 10k and it mutated into mutiny radio with an internet broadcast and podcast only.  radio valencia also has some killer podcasts from very talented radio djs.  i'd recommend checking out both their sites as well.

less equipment required to broadcast to small dense urban areas.

sorry for the long ramble.  i generally agree with your immediate prognosis.

A standing army is like a standing member. It's an excellent assurance of domestic tranquility, but a dangerous temptation to foreign adventure. Elbridge Gerry - Constitutional Convention (1787)
