and fleshes out my gut feeling that Obamacare will evolve into Single Payer.
It won't happen overnight, but the seeds are planted.
One of the elements that intrigues me is the states that are refusing to set up exchanges. Seventeen of them as of this afternoon. These states will be served by a Federal exchange which I imagine will militate for interstate pools the way the states facilitate larger pools, for economies of scale. That will challenge the state-bound 4P insurance companies, they don't operate across state lines as each state has different regulation regimes.
What I'd like to see is MedicAid being offered to people up to 500% above the poverty line as a baseline medical coverage. It would dominate that wedge of the market which includes young workers and the 4Ps would be left with the boutique and add-on markets. Dwindling prospects motivate them to find other fields to till. Eventually it will just make more sense to everyone that Single Payer is the most economical way to go and the 4P companies will have succumbed to market forces, not seizure and banning (as many Lefties have been rooting for).
The expansion of MedicAid to cover many times more people, people who can buy in, people who are younger and healthier, makes MedicAid solid economically. Once it's wound up and running well, fold in MediCare, merge the state exchanges with the Federal one and integrate those bureaucracies into National Health.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!
