However, Willard gloming on to the 47% is sort of interesting, if you credit my perception that the instinct-driven members of our community sort of recognize each other on some primal level, as most creatures seem able to identify their own kind. And, while I don't think the instinct-driven who don't give much though (or any) to what they do amount to nearly half of the population, they may well be in the same range as the 30% of adults that are functionally illiterate.
(Which is not to say that Romney is dyslexic, as Dubya admittedly is, but it was reported by his advisors and consultants that they doubted he'd read the advisory essays they provided to him. People who remember whatever they hear, don't need to read. Or, they don't perceive the need).
If we assume 30% of the electorate to be in the base that does what it is told and assume a certain percentage who think it's either nice to give people what they ask for or think it is nice for people to take turns, then getting to the 47% seems fairly easy. And, if that's the case, then perhaps we should work on informing the people whose generosity leads them to make poor decisions that perhaps they should reconsider. Giving turns is nice, but not to incompetents.

We organize governments to provide benefits and prevent abuse.
