  •  I wish and hope. I think they just found (5+ / 0-)

CH4 or something else indicative of life, but also indicative of a lot else. I don't know if you're old enough to remember when NASA "found" life in an asteroid found in Antarctica and Bill Clinton held a press conference to announce the discovery of life outside of Earth--but it was something of an embarrassment, since the evidence wasn't really there. I'm guessing they want to avoid a similar scenario this time.

    •  Old enough? Yep, I'm in my late 50s and (3+ / 0-)

      remember that well.

The cool heads at NASA don't say "earthshaking" very often!  They must think they've hit the Holy Grail of Life.

I am. I appreciate the Rolling Stones, if that helps.

Yeah. The "earthshaking" really has me hoping that we'll get what I want: an announcement that might bring the world together, even though that announcement was made by Galileo in the "Starry Messenger."

that would not even come close to earthshaking in my book. I'd say for them to be saying this and being so careful as to want to spend weeks making sure, is likely to be much more more conclusive than a maybe. Maybe's just don't shake anybody's world.
