  •  Stayed in a B&B a few weeks before the election (4+ / 0-)

As we drove up, my heart sank--the front yard was festooned with Romney/Ryan and other republican lawn signs. Parked around the back, same thing. Walked into the office and the big-screen TV was blaring Fox news.

If we hadn't pre-paid, I would have driven away and found someplace else to stay.

There were other irritations: Racist remarks by the proprietor about an ethnic group that he considers bad guests. Religious book by Sarah Palin's ghost writer on the bureau in our room. Having to chit chat with these dolts at breakfast.

We couldn't wait to get out of there--but the place is highly rated on TripAdvisor, and other guests were gushing about how wonderful our hosts were, so I guess the right-wing bubble is big enough to sustain their business.

I'm willing to do business with people who have beliefs that differ from mine, of course. But I don't want their politics pushed in my face when I'm trying to have a relaxing get-away.

That would have made me crazy, particularly when looking forward to a nice get away. That's one of several reasons I don't do B and Bs anymore.  Although I haven't had your experience, I have been pressed into company I wasn't interested in. I'd rather do a Comfort Inn or something like that. Less charming maybe, but private and that's worth a lot to me.
