  •  I'm confused about that quote (6+ / 0-)

The polling was remarkably accurate!  Nate Silver called all 50 states.  If the Romney team wanted an accurate state of the race on any given day, they could have ignored their own internals and checked FiveThirtyEight.  It would have shown they were losing, of course, but that's a feature, not a bug.  They were in fact losing for a year straight except (possibly) for a few days in early October.  There was no crisis in polling -- there was a "crisis" in the electorate failing to vote for Republicans.

Now, maybe there was a crisis in internal polling which led them to think they were winning, but that's only because they bought into the Fox News narrative that the 2012 electorate would look like it did in 2010 or 2004, since all the coloreds would stay home due to disillusionment about not having a government-issued pony.  But that's a crisis in right-wing hacks' ability to influence right-wing wonks.  There was no substantive reason to think black voters would just stay home after the unconscionable, race-based disrespect the right has shown Obama for four straight years, for example.
