    Suppose it had been the dreaded 269-269 tie, and Obama winning the popular vote.   The House would have picked Romney, but if the Democratic states chose not to vote, then they couldn't pick anyone, and Biden would take office on Jan. 20th.

    Of course, the Senate Republicans could boycott as well, then Biden wouldn't be picked (since they also need a 2/3 quorum), and we'd end up with President Boehner.

    Never mind..

      For simple reason that Boehner in that scenario would be like Gerald Ford: another appointed caretaker President with little chance at being elected on his own.

        look at Ford's staff. They ended up running everything under Rayguns and the Bushes: Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, etc.

        I am not religious, and did NOT say I enjoyed sects.
