a certain percentage of EVs in the bank because of the racist solid South, the Blue Team starts off with a certain percentage of the electorate because of all the "minorities" the Rs have alienated.

At some point we have to acknowledge that our coalition has a better chance of being a permanent majority than theirs

Democrats need to deliver for their constituencies.  Too many in Congress seem to be on a career path where they collect votes from progressives, avoid doing anything to offend corporations, and grease the skids for a lucrative job as a lobbyist when they retire or lose a reelection campaign.  Too many concentrate on pleasing the Village.

If the next step is a "grand bargain" that says young people get no Medicare until age 70, if deportation of unauthorized immigrants continues to break records and there is no progress on a path to legalization, if stop-and-frisk continues with no pushback from the DoJ, if the feds make war on states that have relaxed marijuana laws, our side won't turn out in 2014.

I can concur, especially w/r/t the Medicare / Social Security situation.  I am through being told that I am too expensive to take care of.  If that's the case, I'll stop my contributions now and save that money myself.

          AND the one above it.

I'm already getting worried that (to quote Tom) Middle-Man is preparing to repair to his secret underground hideout, the Pre-emptive Cave over the misnamed "fiscal cliff".  The cynical among us have even written that Middle-Man wants to get this done NOW because

he damn sure doesn't want Liz Warren and Alan Grayson on his left as he dismantles the New Deal and the Great Society programs.
          (it's in the comment thread).

Let's hope that's just Adams being cynical.  But the histrionics about the Fiscal-Cliff-That-Ain't are unnerving, especially when they come from the WH.

          I mean, remember?
