    It is anti-democratic. If the people elect a majority in the senate that majority should control the senate. You already have plenty of checks and balances. There's a silly romantic notion that one righteous minority - even one single guy - should be able to prevent the majority from acting because he's in a direct connection with god or the founding fathers or the inner soul of America or what not.

    That's total bullshit! If those guys didn't get a majority of votes, they are fucked up. That's life.

    If the filibuster were so essential to the American democracy, why isn't there one in the House?

    I keep hearing: well but if we dems are the minority one day, we'll be happy to have the filibuster. Bullshit. If you are in the minority you're fucked up and that's life. Try to be the majority next time. And don't believe that if next time the republicans have a majority of 55 seats in the senate they'll have screwples about changing the rules in their favor.
