  •  The real question: How to fight back? (9+ / 0-)

We live in a capitalist society and layoffs will happen no matter what we do. It is simply a reality. We need to accept  the reality of layoffs and hiring. We simply need to prepare ourselves to better deal with it as individuals as well as a society/progressives.

The most recent presidential elections have showed us that, we are very powerful as a people. Although each one of us only has ONE single vote, we were able to put these votes together to defeat someone, whose intentions were clearly to only serve the 1% of the Nation. We were able to read his game, understand it very well and repudiate it, one vote at a time. We did what it took to make sure, he didn't come to power. We stayed hours and hours (for some of us) in line to vote. We were determine to make that vote count. Most of us fell great sense of satisfaction after that ballot went through. We showed determination, passion and strong will to succeed. And on Nov. 6th, we all celebrate the result of those actions.

Entrepreneurs and Business Owners are a necessity for our capitalistic society to function. We owe our jobs to those, who took the risk to invest and create.
But over the last few years, I have learned that there are different types of Business Owners/Entrepreneurs. There are those who care about the people who work for them and there are those who are out to destroy and enslave those who work for them. The last presidential campaign couldn't have drown this contrast anymore clearly.

As consumers (just as voters), we have tremendous power and we need to exercise that power with passion, determination and strong will to succeed. We MUST learn to spend our money wisely. We must spend our money in the right businesses. Those businesses that will care for the same values as we do.
I understand, we all like cheap stuff, because our budget is limited and our we have families to support. But watching what's going at Walmart and some other companies (Papa Johns, Dennys, AppleBees, ...) we really need to think seriously about how we spend our money. We need to use our money like we use our vote.

The best way is to make every day "Small Business Saturday" and give as little of your money to big-box/corporate/chain anything as much as humanly possible. Papa John's wasn't getting my money before their CEO mouthed off about Obamacare (mainly because I've got two local joints within a 5-minute drive who make pies that are 100 times better), and he's damn sure not going to get any of my business now.
