      huge pile-ups, someone pulling over to wait, etc.

      Instead of carrying on at 85 mph which you're supposed to do in Texas - go with the prevailing traffic speed, that's always the safest option.

          just outside of Springfield, where I live.  Which is usually a good thing.

          But it is definitely quite terrifying to be suddenly caught in dense fog - common sense kinda tells you to hit the brakes hard, but OTOH the demon on my other shoulder says "what, are you freakin' nutso - that'll just result in you being rear ended in a nanosecond or two" . . .
