  •  This is heartbreaking (10+ / 0-)

and a lesson about what can happen to the entire planet with neglect and destruction. My heart bleeds for the innocent beauty lost forever.

We organized a Gathering in Kihei, Maui in 1994 to bring the activist tribes together. Artists and scientists, ecologists and technologists...

... and then something magical happened.

Native tribal elders came and spoke of the heartbreak that the People and Land and Life have endured.

They then said that they had previously not accepted numerous invitations from the "Rainbow People" (what they called the general Maui community of hippies and cre8ies and artists and musicians and activists)... and they felt the time had become right and chosen our Gathering as the proper time to come together.

It was truly a profound honor.

Come take part in Cre8ive Chaos and Healthy Harmony!

The 14th Annual Gathering of the eCOcre8ive Community takes place from
1:00 to 11:00 PM, Sunday, February 20, 1994, at the Kihei Community Center,
      Maui, Hawaii.

In just two weeks, a Sunday on Maui will be filled with cre8ive people who
will come from around the world for the 14th annual gathering of the
eCOcre8ive Community  -- a gathering that brings together the highly
creative -- who design, write, diagnose, engineer, paint, photograph,
program, critique, envision and otherwise participate in creating the state
of their art. This event has been the pioneer in bringing together
technologists and ecologists, artists and scientists, activists and
entrepreneurs, people who know why and people who know how, all for
the purpose of creating ecologically responsible futures.

Previous gatherings have attracted people on the cutting edge of their
professions from virtuoso multimedia artists to US-USSR citizen
diplomats to California computer graphics cognoscenti. The gathering was
launched from the Homebrew Computer Club in 1980 as The Graphics
Gathering, by Howard Pearlmutter, who has organized the event every
year since. A computer graphics wiz, his work with clients including
NASA, Apple, Silicon Graphics and Disney, enables him to put on these
      free community events yearly.

Current topics combine technology with social, political, futurist issues
including intentional community, communications, privacy, the Bill of
Rights, the environment, peace, toxins, endangered species, atmospheric
destabilization, art, music, science, multimedia. The day includes an orgy of
demos, multi-media presentations, panels, community networking
sessions, impromptu surprises, unstructured mingling times and
"cre8ivity." Meet your peers (and your friends from UseNet in person),
learn from each other, appreciate and be appreciated, stimulate and be
stimulated, build bridges between separate fields of knowledge, share tools
that empower individuals to envision, express, implement and enliven.

The event is free and open to the public. All attendees are participants, not
simply observers, and are encouraged to bring something to share. Free
booth space is available to any and all grassroots entrepreneurs, musicians,
artists, programmers, activists, crafters and health practitioners.

Airline tickets can be purchased for reasonable prices through Cut Rate
Tickets at 808-871-7300. Choice camping sites will be shown to those
interested in "roughing it". ;) For more information, e.g. lodging, or to
inquire about being a presenter, email back to this account and we will
      respond promptly.

If you are unable to attend, but are interested in the event send us an email
message with the following information about yourself:
      real name
      snail mail address
      net name @ net address
      home phone number
      work phone number
keywords about you and your general interests
any offerings you may have for free, exchange, or money
      any needs you may have

We would also be pleased to receive any digital valentines you would like
to send us, the best of which will be shared with the gathering.

      TechnAloha,
      from your friends at Softweaver
