    which he needs to master to survive his ordeal. And in that version the cook, who is more beast than man, has to die so Pi can live.

    We each have a beast in us. We all prefer to project, to say the beast lives entirely in our enemies.

    Pi is wise. To be strong, we must own our own beasts. Then we can fight our enemies' savagery, but still look for their humanity.
