  •  I read a LOT of RW blogs. (27+ / 0-)

A few sensible people are desperately begging the flock towards moderation. It's clear whatever is left of the shabby "establishment" wishes to move in that direction.

Unfortunately, to remain relevant, the Republicans rode the Tea Party/extremist movement to its dead-end conclusion, to the point that their regular voters are now furious with the GOP, who they see as massive capitulators (ironic on this site, I know).

I see pleas to run Palin, a large segment advising people to sit it out in 2016 if a "true conservative" is not nominated, and a nascent third-party movement. All of these people are aware they will not win with our current electorate for many years. They do not care.

"Let it burn" is a refrain I read time and time again on RW blogs. The rump of the party (basically what's left) are willing to charge off the cliff before admitting they need to change. In their eyes, it is better to give Obama and the Dems all they want and let it crash, discrediting Dems forever (they believe), than to continue to engage or battle us. It's very weird.

Yes these people--those who remain--are motivated by racism, but they are merrily marching their way into irrelevancy. The crippled establishment knows they need to change, but they are powerless to make their electorate do ANYTHING after giving them a taste of power.

    Sucks to be them.

    •  two observations: first, how do you do it? -- how (8+ / 0-)

are you able to read LOTS of rw blogs & keep your sanity? :)  and, second, the r's will never rid themselves of these parasites b/c to do so would mean they would lose their entire membership.  the gop sold its soul to the fundies & the racists in the 1960s so they could win elections & now it's coming back full circle to exact its revenge, & I say tooooooo fuckin' bad, assholes!

you made your bed, now lie in it.

    •  After W and Romney's neo-Southern strategy (4+ / 0-)

I would like to believe that the Republican brand is totally discredited, and therefore the only hope of the actual conservatives is to start a third party.

It would take a lot of money (which they have) and some sort of charismatic individual to pull it off (a conservative Obama or Jack Kennedy).  So far, I can't identify that individual.

    •  What have you seen of the Ron Paul faction? (0+ / 0-)

Have they abandoned politics?  Or are they now divided up into those who unhappily supported Romney, and those who voted for Johnson in protest, and those who want to run a Sarah Palin, thinking that she can "unite" the Republicans into one tent big enough to win?
