in a large venue where Spielberg showed up and offered some prefatory remarks. He said this was the first biographical feature attempted on Lincoln in 70 years. I found that to be very sobering news. For that reason alone the film is indispensable. It's a bonus that it also turns out to be a truly excellent film. And for me the thing that made me cry was the young boy, and the tragic cutting short (even though SPOILER ALERT the war had irreparably ruined Lincoln's life by that point).
