    directly was a Florida restaurant chain which gave us a "profit sharing" check once a year.  

    It wasn't magic, but it did make people careful not to do stuff that would hurt the bottom line.  Employee theft was almost nil --- seemed it was harder to steal from yourself and/or the guy working next to you.  And worker suggestions for improvements were seen as positive critique in self interest rather than negative griping.

    The executives -- who actually are needed to concentrate on quality & supply & maintainance & marketing -- are not the ones to face customers every day.

    That's when I realized that mistreating  customer interface people was stupid. Those folks control how customers feel about you.   Sad that I hadn't heard that already -- first up -- in the one economics course I was forced to take in college.
