    and i have to admit the first cynical thing that crossed my mind was--why is this being reported?

    I weep for the loss of life--that's not the point.  It's just that the news seldom cares about loss of life in other countries unless there is a US tie-in.  Now I know what it is.

      Our media won't hesitate to report on a tragedy overseas with a heavy loss of life -- as they did this weekend -- but they make no connection to our companies' (and consumers') complicity in the tragedy.

      This weekend would have been an excellent opportunity for our news media to mention the outsourced garment industry in the context of their incessant reporting/cheerleading about "Black Friday" (black Friday, indeed).  No connection was made on tonight's evening news that I saw.
