    is only briefly mentioned by cheerful weather-readers.

    I think the most recent mention I saw, he said something like, "And we are 4 1/2 inches of rain short for the year."

    He didn't go into the fact that it had rained heavily in huge downpours a couple times early in the year - late winter really - and that for 6, 7, 8 months at a time, we'd had hardly any rain at all.  

    A little two hour shower of 1/2" of rain every couple of months is practically worthless. It keeps things minimally alive, but it isn't what is needed.
