    most of us in the Northern Hemisphere seem to feel the need of seasonal holidays.

    Midwinter is the time to counter darkness with light.

    When the kids are all out on their own (not around to do the work, in other words) we'll stop having a Christmas tree.

    But I'll still want extra candles in the house, ribbons, greenery here and there, and luminarias in the yard on Christmas Eve.

      I never thought about it that way, but now that you mention it, the Christmas outdoor lights do brighten it up from the days that now get dark so early, and the greenery makes up for the brown lawns. If anytime of year needs a little decorating it's winter in Colorado. :) Wonder if it will be white this year.
