  •  well.... (4+ / 0-)

it's in english :) yeah, it's a hot mess right now, some things need to be moved to earlier points in the book (wholesale, the scenes simply need to be moved ahead of other scenes) but some things need to be broken out of their chapters and put elsewhere.

a chunk of it surely should just be edited out, and i'm certain there's a plothole here or there where i've not explained how the main character got from point a to point b, etc.

all in all, though, it works. it's a sad and frightening book, i feel. nobody comes out of it well, and most of the characters don't make it out at all.

    here's my cover:

Sounds intriguing. Good luck in editing.

a daughter and her father take two different approaches to grieving the loss of the daughter's twin sister in the shadow of their mother's death in childbirth years before.

the father is court ordered to therapy, while the daughter begins to view healing as a form of betrayal to the dead. her mourning takes a vicious turn as she runs away, then returns to make her father remember his grief by hiding in the attic of the house and "haunting" him.

the whole thing is epistolary, written as letters from the living sister to her dead twin.

in writing it, i was thinking chiefly of nabakov's pale fire, or john lanchester's the debt to pleasure.

it's pretty gruesome in many ways, but also incredibly tender when the sister is telling her twin about her life after the sister's accident. i enjoyed writing most of it, but cried a little sometimes and kind of wanted a shower after one scene.
