    Don't you think having a state based on one religion is a pretty offensive concept in this day and age. Shouldn't we be encouraging all these states that dole out citizen rights based on religion to become fully fledged secular democratic countries be they Jewish or Islamic?

      It's a nationality. You can be an atheist Jew, a Buddhist Jew, etc. It's true that the Jewish People has a traditional religion, and that makes things complex, but you don't have to believe in the religion to be Jewish. It's like being a member of a Native American tribe -- you don't have to believe in their version of the Great Spirit or whatever to belong to the tribe. Christians have tried to define Jews as "members of a religion" but it isn't historically accurate.
