  •  I got that message with WMD's in Iraq (16+ / 0-)

The liars who pushed that particularly gruesome bit of convenience were never called out by the establishment media or anywhere else in the power structure. They are all still employed, still talking shit, and still part of the formation of Truth 2.0.
I don't see merely missing the election outcome by a country mile to be the thing that suddenly punches through the Cone of Denial. There is too much political capital (and actual capital) invested in maintaining the fictions that GOPFox & Friendlies promulgate.
Think of this possibility; if the RW had called the election as we and the aggregators did, there is an excellent chance the GOP base would have been demoralized enough to stay home, and they could have lost the House. All the close races went our way, after all.
So those lies served a purpose.; generating a Pyrrhic victory instead of a complete rout.

R-Money/R-Ayn, the ENRON Ticket, is not a campaign; it's a hostile takeover bid. UPDATE: a failed takeover bid

    •  The WMD lie was called out, but not mainstream (0+ / 0-)

That's for sure. For a few days during the final ramp-up to the election, the establishment media actually did get a little more direct in their choice of words. Relative to 2002, this was an awesome slam-down, don't you think? That's about as good as it will get, imo.

I like the Cone of Denial concept. I think there's more magic behind this idea. Occasionally, it's the The Bowling Ball of Persuasion or the Avalanche of Assholes. But I digress.

It think one could try to make a case that the lies served a purpose, but I simply cannot believe that this was a clever and deliberate tactical move. They wingers were and are splintered and fractured and letting the fear-mongers set the agenda. Golly, it should have been a landslide according to all the head nodding going on at their self-promoting little Meetings of the Bullies.

My wife thought that the Republicans were deliberately trying to lose this election. I was convinced that this was the way they planned to win everything. Sure enough, even after they insulted and disparaged nearly every eligible voter, the bullies still ended up way too close for comfort. Which, of course, speaks volumes about the sorry state of education and all those first-cousin marriages in the red, painful, boils of ignorance all over the country. The actual votes paint a bluish-purple country. It's not red at all.

My wife figured that they has some kind of hidden agenda. In one respect, they always do have a downticket agenda. And we ended up with 24 Republican majority state legislatures. All three houses in each state. Something like 13 or 14 are Democratic majorities. That happens to be the Koch/AFP strategy. State and local government takeover.
