  •  I was stunned (8+ / 0-)

to hear our troops will be deploying in 2014, business as usual. My friend will be there 8 months or longer.

You're right, NonnyO, our Congress needs to pull the plug on this mess NOW.

    •  I am so sorry... (5+ / 0-)

... you'll have to be without your friend for longer than planned.

My nephew served two terms with his guard unit in Afghanistan, missed out on the beginning months of two of his young children's lives (they forgot him or never knew him because they were newborn babies or barely walking when he left, although the eldest could still sort of remember Daddy).

During Nephew's second tour a recruiter came around to ask him to re-enlist, promising a signing bonus.  "There's not enough zeros to that amount" he told the recruiter..., and did not re-enlist.  He came home, and got to see the first year of life of their youngest (4th) child who was born nine months later....

I am heartily sick of the collective stupidity of our Congress Critters who keep this insanity going on.  NO reason given justifies their actions to keep sending our people back to that hell-hole.

and the military control the government to a large extent.  That's why we're there.  Our military depends on oil, and war is profitable to them once they retire and directly work for the MIC.

What's irrational is how people drive these huge SUVs the size of their living rooms.

Everytime I see a huge SUV, I think of all the lives lost to fill its tank.

      on Afgahnistan?

They are all available on line for free.

It's a terrible mess - and I'm worried that what we've done is pushed the Pashtuns (Taliban's dominant ethnicity) into the northern territory of Pakistan (Wazeristan, spelling?).  From there they are launching cross-border raids into Afghanistan, and launching terrorist attacks within Pakistan.

When we hear the Pakistan is harboring terrorists, and has people in the ISI who are sympatico we are only hearing half the story.  IMO Pakistan is at risk from the Taliban as well.

Pakistan devolving into a collapsed state is a bigger risk to the world than Iran.
