    Of course there are still costs associated with providing health care, but the profit part of the equation os removed.
    That may be true, but until you know what the cost of administering a government-run program is, you can't say whether or not a public option would cost less.  Just because there's no profit being made doesn't mean it costs less.

    Insurance companies may enjoy economies of scale that reduce costs to a greater degree than with a public program.  Also, I don't think it's always and necessarily bad that health insurance companies make profits.  What's bad are the adverse incentives that existed prior to Obamacare's prohibition on discrimination based on pre-existing conditions.
