    Topic for a long discussion.

But briefly: yes, in the sense that our coalition (like any) has fault-lines that could be exploited. (E.g., ramp up anti-white racism from minority groups. Or super-educated vs. less-so. Etc.)

But to reach the point that this had any real effect it would mean that the Republican coalition would have to come far more unglued, and/or move radically left. In some ways the biggest challenge to the Dem Party might instead be if moderate Republicans were somehow able to force out the Teaists (I don't see that happening, despite Bartlett's hopes) and the latter formed some ultra-right 3rd Party (again not likely, but perhaps in conjunction with Libertarians, Perotists, Venturistas, racists, etc.). And then if this newly-moderate GOP could somehow position itself as centrist and try to regain centrist Dems? Again, I can't see any of that happening.

Not sure what time-frame you mean by "long". In the next 16 years, I don't see any major partisan realignment. (See the debates in poli sci, maybe google Walter Dean Burnham, who sees realignment cycles of 30-36 years, he's pretty old but still good.)

even recent to mess it up bad enough, but if I smoke enough pot I can see a progressive part vs the centrist right conserva dems and reepers of old vs fringe Moonbat fundie party....slugging it out...(cough)

those really are the alignments in life, they don't match , yet, the political's always the monied centrists fighting for their fringe independents...but, like they say..we shall see...well, maybe not me, but some of y'all :>

      This machine kills Fascists.
