  •  same here, done a lot of theater and (6+ / 0-)

had a similar gut impression to yours, watching this clip.

    •  Glad it wasn't just me. I just got directing (8+ / 0-)

an TV ad yesterday with about 12 professional actors. I've been working with actors for over a decade in ad work as well as entertainment and to me the woman look and sounds like an actor. Sure, she's got no makeup on and her hair is disheveled. It's a look. Not the one in her headshot. ;) Also, there were a few lines that didn't "ring true" for me.

It was just a gut reaction for me too. But I thought I was being cynical. Nice to know at least one other entertainment professional had the same gut reaction I did. I hate to think I'm just a cynic for the fuck of it, yanno?

For the record, I am not a member of Courtesy Kos. Just so you know. Don't be stupid. It's election season. My patience is short.

      •  for me it's the poised, sustained eye contact (6+ / 0-)

and the unusually camera-ready statement about a life changed and a readiness to devote one's remaining energy to climate change action.

For the vast majority of the rest of us, we get on camera and our eyes and language centers can't hold it steady like that, they falter and dart around, especially when/if we are gathering our intense and spontaneous thoughts and feelings.

        •  If I were playing the part (0+ / 0-)

of an O'Reilly fan who has just seen the light after watching Chasing Ice, and encountered a guy with a camera as I was exiting the theater, my character's behavior would probably be based on thoughts like: "What's this camera - am I gonna be on TV?  Oh, my hair's not done, and I look awful" and thus I would be somewhat hesitant about talking at first.  'Cause I'm just a regular person, a Billo fan, not an actor.

But then again, I'm an alpha aggro - after all, I throw people out of my house who don't agree with me on climate change. So that would make me bold.  And my birthday is December 21, so I'm a Sag-Cap cusp, which means I'm outgoing and down-to-earth.  Furthermore, I was born in the year of the Dragon, which means I'm really a performer at heart, even if I'm just a regular ole Billo fan.

But I still probably wouldn't look into the camera the entire time because I don't have camera experience.

But this film really moved me, so perhaps I am more impassioned than camera-shy...

Oh I want to believe!  :)

      •  I don't mind being a cynic for this very reason (1+ / 0-)

It's an essential survival skill as far as I'm concerned. Applying even a "for the fuck of it" degree of cynicism leads me to believe that this clip is not going to inspire any true fox viewers to run out and see this movie.
