    ... assuming the CH4 released from permafrost is enough to fuel another "Fireball Earth" scenario, burning the entire planet and consuming all the atmospheric oxygen so all living things on the surface suffocate.

    Invest in long term underwater living facilities, that gets its oxygen from seawater.

    How many centuries will a small contingent of humans have to survive underwater before it will be safe to return to the surface of the earth?

        ... so it's not a total apocalypse.

        But it is something that has occurred a number of times in earth's history. Thing is that was all back in the days of Pangaea, not with the continents in the position we have now. In the current layout, we have a history of a series of Ice Age's and a relatively stable CO2/CH4 level for millions of years.... until man, specifically Oil Man. ;P
