  •  Good luck - (4+ / 0-)

My wife has stage IV rectal cancer - diagnosed in her early 40s.  We're 3 years beyond first diagnosis and still fighting the metastases.

One week the oxaliplatin neuropathy was particularly bad.  Before leaving the treatment room on day 1, swallowing her own saliva triggered the pins-and-needles in her throat.

    •  For the oxaliplatin patient - electric boots! (3+ / 0-)

My wife still has side effects from the oxaliplatin.  She's given up calling it 'peripheral neuropathy' in favor of 'permanent nerve damage'.  Feet always feel cold, among other things.

She found a pair of electric boots from Columbia on supersale today & is as excited as I've seen her in a looong time (!)  The boots have rechargable batteries, which power small heaters.

I'll give an update in MNCC or someplace in a few weeks, after she's worn them around for a while.

I feel for you both; it is terribly painful to see your spouse in such challenging straits. I hope that her treatments work.

I'm seeking to organize DKos members in SE Michigan--roughly, from the Ohio line at Lake Erie NE to Port Huron, W to Flint and back S from there. If you'd like to join our new group, Motor City Kossacks (working title), please Kosmail me.
