    Since this was back in the 1970s, you could even say my church milieu was part of the cultural backing for the Reagan Revolution.

    All of this is set-up :) Now I'll get to the story, which is tangentially related to the diary.

    We had a Sunday School teacher who was very down on "sin," including, of course, "homosexuality." It being the 1970s, a big problem this teacher had was that of sinners not slinking around in their depravity, but "lifting up their heads." The open desire for respect on the part of people who wouldn't conform to church teachings, was abhorrent.

    I believe today that what this teacher hated was peoples' refusal to renounce parts of themselves, which of course they should have done for her comfort. That refusal is a tone I'm picking up on in the lbgt-rights discourse today, in the repudiation of Warren and idiots like him, and it makes me smile.
