  •  I didn't think that we did. It's just that when (4+ / 0-)

I was watching I noticed that he was leading up to saying one thing and then suddenly changed the subject.

The bible clearly states that I am absolutely in control of my actions, and since I have chosen my authority for my life, not the government, not the common culture.... Hey, by the way. . .
Here in Maryland, they were able to get some religiously conservative pastors to come out in favor of marriage equality. Since the vote was relatively close, that may have been important. The statements they made emphasized the importance of a separation between church and state. The pastor I have in mind will most certainly not be performing ceremonies between people of the same sex himself.

We need to get people like Rick Warren to the same place.

rights battle as well -- despite what the bishops proclaim, most in-the-pew Catholics support a woman's right to choose (whether it's abortion or birth control) because they understand that they can't force their religion on anyone else. (They also understand the separation of church and state, which is why most also support civil marriage equality.)

I'm an Episcopalian -- not a Catholic, not an evangelical fundamentalist. My church has no problem with marriage equality (though it's pretty much left up to bishop's option whether their diocesan priests can conduct ceremonies in the states where it's civil law), nor does the Church take an official stand on either contraception or abortion (leaving it up to the individual conscience). Why should I be forced to live under Catholic or evangelical church rules? What about my religious freedom?
