Every time I hear mention of Rick Warren and his horrible book The Purpose Driven Life, I have to push for people to read the unfortunately more obscure response book, Robert M. Price's The Reason Driven Life. If want to read a systematic take-down of Warren's awful ideas, and yet also find a positive message, this is where to go.

Very simply, Rick Warren lives a life devoid of self-examination. That's how he can play the "America's Pastor" role and yet still be an awful, bigoted human being. He sees no contrast, no contradiction in his behavior; and, as Price points out, he seems to know squat about the content of the Bible because he reads it through this prism of self-ignorance.
