    The tax cut issue was addressed in the 2010 lame duck session, and the present extension (which is set to expire) was actually the GOP's demand during that session.

    The "98% of what I wanted" deal was last year's sequestration agreement on the debt ceiling. The GOP demanded huge budget cuts as the price of raising the debt ceiling, and then promptly started bellyaching about the looming disaster of the automatic defense cuts that they agreed to in the first place and could have wholly averted either by negotiating in good faith during the super-super-committee a year ago, or just passing any damned budget they could get the votes for in the time since.
