It was on public land by a major road in Loudoun County, VA, but it was one of those huge signs that normally you only see on private property.  The fact that it wasn't on private land and was easily walked to from the sidewalk probably made it a tempting target in a Dem-leaning neighborhood.

While I certainly don't normally condone that sort of defacement, this defacer wasn't vulgar or anything.  On the Romney-Ryan sign, in the upper corner, someone had neatly spraypainted "47%," while on the neighboring Allen for Senate sign, the same handwriting had written "macaca" in neat black letters underneath Allen's name.

There's still one lonely Romney sign beside the road on my drive to work.  It's been up since Sept, and looks a bit sun-bleached and dirty now.  It's the only one that hasn't come down (all the Obama and Kaine signs came down within a week, BTW).

are "fair game" for creative enhancements. But on private property, not a good idea.

Defacing is childish. But, to paraphrase ronny raygun, "one woman's defacement is another's creative enhancement"
