For those keeping score at home, here's a helpful link to income tax rates for 1968, among others.

Nice comment, databob, though with all due respect, Alan Greenspan is above Norquist on my list, because of Greedspan's multigenerational Ponzi scheme [1983 SocSec panel to boost SocSec taxes and raise retirement ages, then 2001 Fed chairmanship to give public approval to W's tax cuts (funded by the surpluses generated by the '83 action), with the bonus of a media wife (Andrea Mitchell) to help sell it all].

    •  I'll see your Greenspan and raise you a Gramm... (6+ / 0-)

as in Senator Phil Gramm, architect of the sneaking of the derivitaves de-regulation legislation into the must-pass 2000 appropriations bill.

Without that, the real estate speculators wouldn't have had an easy way to play off their risk, and the housing bubble woudn't have gotten blown up nearly as badly as it did.

And I'll raise your wife choice with Wendy Gramm, former head of the CFTC who rammed through a rule exempting Enron from regulation (gee, how well did THAT turn out) right before she took a seat on the Enron board.

      Cheers.

      •  FWIW, were I a betting man... (0+ / 0-)

...I'da lost my house gambling that ol' Phil woulda won the Republican't nomination 'way back in '96.  All that Texas oil money backing a down-home good ol' boy, Dem turned Repub, Dickey Flatt test, gummint-down-shutter?

I still don't know how he lost (other than that his R constituents love their SocSec and Medicare/Medicaid, too).

        Take care.
