  •  I Moved Back To Where I Grew Up (4+ / 0-)

to be near my parents. There is much I love about the area, like the cost of living is next to nothing. The pace of life is slower. But I so miss the diversity. I kid you not I can go days at a time and never see anybody that doesn't look just like me (really pale and white).

When opportunity calls pick up the phone and give it directions to your house.

    •  I experienced a bit of this (3+ / 0-)

when I went to a small city in Iowa a few years ago for a week of training at the corporate HQ of the company I worked for. (Now gone because the CEO turned out to be a crook and is on trial with the possibility of prison for lying to regulators for 20 yrs) The whole week the only person I saw who was not white was my Japanese co-worker who flew out there with me. There was the culture void I felt that I had never experience before. I had been in mostly-white places before, but this was the first time that the lack of diversity struck me with such force.

      And the food sucked.
