  •  In my case...husband! He supports a man who (11+ / 0-)

scapegoated his wife's profession, took money from the family income, and removed my right to collectively bargain...all for ReTHUGlican gain.

I struggle to let go of the animosity I feel so it has minimal effect on our relationship.  I'm not sure how successful I am...I HURT because I feel attacked by ReTHUGlicans, other Wisconsinites, and husband's Walker support.  BIG SIGH!

    •  You are not the only educator (11+ / 0-)

with a politically divided marriage. Ours is a result of my political views evolving, beginning when I stopped listening to the radio station my mother liked when I was a kid. (Its current angry man format is a far cry from the "Ask Your Neighbor" days!) After the week in 2010 of having both Barrett and Walker signs on the lawn (he started it, LOL), there has been a truce. We don't really talk politics, but I do see a little movement toward the left on his part. He did sign the recall petitions and voted against Scotty, which surprised me. I don't know how he voted this time. Our version of don't ask, don't tell.

Hang in there, I nudge him by talking only about common ground issues like women's health and equal pay.

      •  I may have to find that common ground...the (0+ / 0-)

difficulty is that WISGOP ReTHUGlicans have led me back to my radical, liberalized roots.

I could have gone along eventually with the budget cuts if there hadn't been so much demonizing of public school teachers. I think that blaming financial problems that have to do with loss of manufacturing jobs, etc. on school teachers is cruel and detrimental to the state, so that must feel awful for you.

I bet that something about Walker's blue collar image resonates with your husband and he doesn't want to admit the betrayal to himself.

There are certain things that Democratic politicians have done that I have disagreed with and I don't entirely like to think about them. It is painful to admit it when you have been betrayed by someone who you supported. Walker ran as a somewhat moderate fiscal conservative originally. Some people will always see him that way.

but, I still think the demonizing of teachers is worse.

consumes...the Milwaukee Sentinel-Journal...no internet for exposure to counter its right "wingery" leanings and no interest in learning how to use the internet as a source for information.  He considers himself well informed...BIG SIGH.  He does not know anything negative about Walker or ReTHUG actions because the MJS buries or spins what is unflattering.

I might have to work on the "soft sell"...but its not my nature.
