      vote that was more about optics and theater and will have no effect in the long run?  Even in the unlikely event that she personally disagreed with the administration on this issue, it in no way measures up to the cynical machinations of the Nixon administration coverup and the serious abuses of power being exercised back then.

        I agree that the two situations are quite different.

        I was just rejecting the idea that "saying what s/he was told to say" (= "I was only following orders") gets a person off the hook morally. The commenter I was originally replying to seemed to be writing as if that idea were a general principle accepted by everyone. Obviously (see Nuremberg) it's not.
