    You go in w/ your hard line, & you don't back off until you see the whites of the Republican eye.

    They've had 4 years of Obama's extending a hand in their direction.  They slapped it away over & over & over again.

    That baloney is over.  He doesn't have to get elected again.  Go for the jugular.  They would have done the same long ago.

      The Obama administration needs to make explicitly clear that the next counter-proposal will be even less to the Republican's liking than the one they're now rejecting.  And, the one after that will be less favorable.  They need to be made to know that the time to climb on the train is now, because it's leaving the station, never to come back again.  Once the Bush tax cuts expire, the administration can offer any package it wishes for Republican consideration, including major increases in the top tax rates to levels higher than during the Clinton administration and the elimination of the preferential treatment for supposed investment income.  Oh, the Republicans can try to claim that it's the administration's fault, but just how do the House Republicans manage to do that when an acceptable Senate bill just awaits the House's passage of similar legislation?
