    who are actually serious, as opposed to beltway-insider "serious", understand this.

    At this point the issue isn't supporting the better of the two parties who support different goals, it's a matter of picking which of the two parties who want to push austerity ought to be supported: the party that wants to erase in fact entitlement programs (Republicans), or the party that wants to erase in practice these programs but claim to have preserved them (Democrats).

    Either way we* lose.

    *We doesn't include "the wealthy" here; just the rest of us, and frankly people in my income strata aren't going to be that badly off after this--but the majority of Americans will be.

      whatever they do will be for the best. The Serious People are simply hoping to reduce the number of holes in the American safety net, while increasing their diameter.

      It's all good. Best of all possible Democratic Worlds.
