  •  Yeah, I know the other two are SOL for now ;) (6+ / 0-)

My husband is 59 at this point. But it'll be only about half of what it was when I'm on Medicare. We're on a group plan, so it would be even worse if we had to go on the open market. If I would be insurable at all, that is.

Thank you very much for the offer of help. I will take you up on it, believe me. I also don't know what to do with the Advantage stuff either.

I'm seeking to organize DKos members in SE Michigan--roughly, from the Ohio line at Lake Erie NE to Port Huron, W to Flint and back S from there. If you'd like to join our new group, Motor City Kossacks (working title), please Kosmail me.

That would be my first instinct. Regular Medicare allows you to go anywhere in the country, to see any doctor, to pursue any treatment. Given your situation, I wouldn't limit my options. Plus, does M. Advantage even try to sign up the disabled? I wouldn't risk it. These are FOR-PROFIT companies. Why would they want to take you on? Their only margin is DENYING you care. They want the healthy 'olds' to sign up at 65 and rake in $$$ from 'em while they don't have any expenses.

Wouldn't be my choice. There is no M. Advantage here, so I've never even had to consider it. But I would never consider it. When I had a brain tumor back in Hawaii, I flew to NY & CT for consults. If I had decided on surgery, I was gonna have it at the best hospital in NYC. Not with the surgeon who gave me the willies back home in Honolulu.

Ho'oponopono. To make things right; restore harmony; heal.
