it's a tool that's effective for some things and useless or even annoying for about 90% of what people use it for. It was oversold as this incredible earth-changing thing but I never saw how it could be. It's really just a version of an email list. I think the important thing with any such app is to analyze what it can and can't do — and if you personally need it.

I disagree about Facebook. I find I am staying in touch and interacting with people I like and value much more effectively and economically than trying to call or email them periodically. I know what they are concerned about and what interests them and feel closer to a lot of people. Like anything else, it's a matter of knowing how to use it effectively. For instance, when I get a "friend" request, the first thing I check out is if they have crazy delusional right-wing political leanings. If so, they're not joining my network. (I do have some Republicans but not the kind who think every utterance on Fox is the Word of God.)

    Jon Husted is a dick.
