  •  "It's the central nervous system of the world" (4+ / 0-)

That's something I remember David Letterman saying when the show started having an active Twitter account.

I use it in a much smaller way - a central nervous system of my interests. Musicians, authors, places I love, etc. A little politics, but not much.

When something interesting or exciting happens in one of those areas, my feed lights up and I am pointed where to find out more if I want to. Or I don't, and let it just scroll on by.

I've found myself at small, unannounced musical performances, at a last-minute free demo by a favorite chef -  at 10am with a few the few other people that saw the early Saturday morning tweet and like me threw on a pair of jeans and a hat and showed up unshowered.  Plenty of food for everyone.

On the other hand, a favorite singer/songwriter who shall remain nameless totally turned me off with her tweets and I found myself uninterested in listening to her music anymore. So who knows?

something like Twitter get turned off by seeing people using it the wrong way, and they often feel they have no control over it. I hear that from people I know who aren't on Facebook. I tell them, "YOU can decide how you use it. You don't have to be the person who posts that she can't decide what to have for lunch or has to post 'Good night Facebook!' at the end of the day. You really don't have to do that."

      Jon Husted is a dick.
